Fair and suitable enrolment
PIC assesses each application consistently and confidentially to confirm that the proposed course is suitable and that the applicant meets its entry requirements. Applicants receive pre-enrolment information so they can make an informed decision.
What PIC checks
Entry requirements
Academic background, English language ability, age and any course-specific prerequisites.
Course suitability
The applicant’s goals, prior experience and ability to participate successfully in the selected course.
Support needs
Any language, literacy, numeracy, disability or other support needs identified by the applicant.
Documents
Identity, previous study, English evidence and other documents required for the application.
Language, literacy and numeracy
An LLN assessment may be required to determine readiness for the course and identify support needs. The result informs the suitability decision and any support plan; it is not used to discriminate unfairly.
From application to commencement
- Apply: Submit the application and supporting evidence.
- Suitability review: PIC checks entry requirements, pre-enrolment information and support needs.
- LLN and credit: Complete any required LLN assessment and apply for course credit where relevant.
- Offer and agreement: Eligible international applicants receive a Letter of Offer and Agreement and invoice.
- Acceptance: Return the signed agreement and make the required payment.
- Systems and CoE: PIC records the enrolment in its student system and PRISMS where applicable.
- Orientation: Attend orientation and receive important course and student information.
- Commence: Receive timetable and student identification and begin the course.
USI and course credit
VET students must provide a verified Unique Student Identifier or authorise PIC to create one. Applications for credit transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning are handled under PIC’s Course Credit Policy and Procedure, and accepted credit is recorded on the student file.
When an application may be refused
- The applicant does not meet the minimum entry requirements.
- PIC reasonably considers that serious circumstances may prevent successful participation.
- The applicant does not demonstrate behaviour consistent with student expectations.
- PIC cannot provide the level or type of support required.
PIC advises an unsuccessful applicant in writing. Enrolment responses are intended to be issued within five working days once the required information is available.
Confidentiality
Selection and enrolment information is treated confidentially and is released only with consent or where disclosure is authorised or required.
